Rail Innovators Group is an European railway integrator. The group is a private holding company acting within multiple disciplines of the railway industry. The group is active throughout Europe, having its headquarters in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and subsidiaries in Germany, Czech Republic and Poland. The companies within the group are active in renting of wagons, railway logistics, traction services and wagon maintenance.

In 2020, Swiss investment company Reichmuth Infrastructure acquired a 49% stake in Railrelease, following a further acquisition of 49% of the Rail Innovators Group in 2022. With this strategic move, the company aims to strengthen it’s position as European Railway integrator and  pursuits and exhaustive invest plan in railway assets. With this significant investment, Rail Innovators Group plans to enhance the environmental performance of its locomotives and drive innovation within the railway sector, positioning itself at the forefront of green transportation solutions.

The job profile

The CFO is a key executive with a well-developed business acumen who plays a critical role in steering the financial direction of the rapidly growing company, which operates in the transportation and logistics industry through various business units (hosted under separate legal entities) in multiple European countries. 

As a key member of the leadership team, the CFO ensures overall effective financial management, is a key contributor to the maximization of earnings and the consistent development of company value, drives sustainable growth and ensures the company's fiscal health. The CFO sets  the standard by fostering a culture of financial discipline, innovation, and ethical compliance.

Other responsibilities: 

  • The CFO oversees the IT, Legal, and HR departments (approx. 30 heads, direct and indirect), with 3 direct reports, ensuring these functions are integrated into the overall strategic framework. This leadership fosters collaboration and aligns departmental goals with the company's financial objectives;
  • Responsible for the entire finance function, including tax, treasury, cash management, investments, and reporting. This ensures all financial activities align with the company's strategic goals and regulatory standards in the international arena the company operates in;
  • As a vital business partner, you will drive performance, further refine the planning and control cycle, and serve as an trusted and knowledgeable advisor on both functional and operational matters.

The ideal candidate

  • You have completed a Master’s degree in Finance (e.g. Economics, Finance, Econometrics, Business Administration), preferably supplemented with Post-Master degree (MBA, RA or RC);
  • Proven experience as a CFO: demonstrating ability to lead complex financial operations and drive strategic initiatives;
  • Progressive experience in a (business oriented) senior finance role within an international organization. Ideally within the transport and/or logistics industries; 
  • The CFO needs in-depth knowledge of private equity funding and financial markets, essential for navigating the company's growth and capital-raising efforts;
  • Experience in scale-up companies: experience with financial leadership roles in scale-up companies as well as the organizational dynamics of rapid growth;
  • Track record of driving financial performance and organizational improvement: a history of delivering strong financial results and implementing initiatives that improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness; 
  • Fluent in Dutch and English. German is a plus.
